Houston has four major bayous passing through the city: Buffalo Bayou, which runs into downtown; Brays Bayou, which runs along the Texas Medical Center; White Oak Bayou, which runs through the Heights and near the northwest area; and Sims Bayou, which runs through the south of Houston and downtown Houston, merging into the ship channel.
The current mayor of Houston is Bill White, who is serving his first term.
The racial makeup of the city is 49.27% White, 25.31% Black or African American, 0.44% Native American, 5.31% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 16.46% from other races, and 3.15% from two or more races.

 Welcome to the Tree Clinic
Majestic live oaks contribute to the romance of the south, where they may be viewed gracing the front lawn of an antebellum mansion, or creating a mysterious veil over a bayou when draped with Spanish moss.
All oaks are then split into two groups, white oaks and red oaks (also sometimes called the black oaks).
Live oak is one of north America's relatively few broad-leaf trees that retain its green leaves year round just as most conifers keep their needles.

South Trekker - St. Martinville, LA
Whatever the case, St. Martinville preserves its native myth in the form of the Evangeline Oak, situated in a little park along the edge of Bayou Teche.
Martinville, located along Bayou Teche, was one of the areas originally settled and the town was incorporated in 1817.
My particular point of intrigue with St. Martinville is that this was the home of Alcibiade DeBlanc, a colonel in the Confederate army and later an anti-Republican activist and the founder of the Knights of the White Camellia.
