Tragopans and eared pheasants are very adaptable and most of them very quickly become used to living in captivity and survive for a reasonable length of time, provided most of their requirements are met.
Almost all our tragopan and eared pheasant eggs are incubated using Grumbach forced-air incubators, and are transferred at the end of incubation to another room and set in clean hatchers for hatching.
In particular, the males in White eareds, proved to be extremely stress-susceptible and hence not very suitable for A.I. We can confirm that we have done more than a thousand inseminations on captive pheasants in the course of the last 10 years.

 White-eared Pheasants
The Szechuan White-eared Pheasant, Crossoptilon crossoptilon crossoptilon, is a galliform bird native to the Szechuan region of China.
This bird is predominantly white, including, as its name suggests, white ears, but is not as white in as many places of its body as its close relatives the Tibetan White-eared Pheasant, C.
Encroaching on its habitat in agricultural China has reduced the range of the species, and hunting of these pheasants for a variety of delicious Szechuan dishes have threatened their numbers severely.

The call is uttered by the male with his head pointing directly upwards, in the manner of an eared pheasant, and begins with a series of harsh grating notes in rapid succession, which rise to a crescendo of very high pitched disyllabic whistles (Wayre 1969).
Males in captivity often call in duet with eared pheasants, and the calls are sometimes difficult to distinguish, according to Wayre.

Both problems have since been alleviated; the fence was covered with Plexiglas, and the white-eared pheasants are now housed in an extra aviary (see section 'Features Dedicated to Animals').
Aviary: enclosure with wire mesh fencing (1.8 m high, 30 mm mesh width) and aviary net as canopy, plantings with shrubbery, sleeping tree for the pheasants and a small covered feeding station.
