The aims of this project are to expand the limited database concerning White-shouldered Ibis, by studying detailed information of its ecobiology and ethnoecology, and to set up a network for local participative-monitoring.
The participative monitoring network will be built through a series of discussions with local stakeholders, including the inhabitants surrounding its habitat, and training for local young scientists, as well as a campaign for the local youth through school visits to 6 schools around White-shouldered Ibis habitat.
Mapping any relationship (especially cultural) between the species and the local community can be used as an entry point for gaining local support.

 Record counts of threatened ibis
The White-shouldered Ibis Pseudibis davisoni is a large ibis which inhabits lakes, pools, marshes and slow-flowing watercourses in open lowland dipterocarp forest, often subject to seasonal flooding.
A priority area within the region is Western Siem Pang IBA, a mosaic of open deciduous forest and small seasonal wetlands (trapeangs), together with semi-evergreen and mixed deciduous riverine forest along the Sekong River, and semi-evergreen forest on hills near the international border with Laos.
Ongoing work in partnership with local communities aims to educate about the status of these bird populations, ensure their protection from persecution, and establish activities to mitigate further population declines.

WORLDTWITCH - Cambodia Birding by Frank Rheindt
White-shouldered Ibis bred not far from the village, and the ranger's wife was able to show me two in the vicinity of their nest in broad daylight just minutes after my arrival.
Actually, on the second day, after quite a few ibis sightings, it took me some effort to let the park guard know that I was now more interested in finding some of the other goodies rather than just hang around waterholes.
The local birds (as well as those I had seen in Preah Vihear) show a distinct white patch on the upper wing as well as the underwing and appeared noticeably smaller than the ordinary South-east Asian feddeni subspecies.

Finally, at 5:30PM, we had great luck: two Giant Ibis flushed from a trapeang onto a dead tree, and perched in a spot where we could view them through my scope but where we were hidden by some trees.

In recent years a number of hugely exciting discoveries have been made, including a population of the near-mythical Giant Ibis, a new species—the Mekong Wagtail, and a breeding population of the rapidly declining eastern race of Sarus Crane.
Several other highly threatened species can be seen in the northern plains of Cambodia; for example, a breeding population of White-shouldered Ibis has been found in the northern province of Preah Vihear along with White-winged Duck, Green Peafowl, White-rumped Falcon, and White-rumped and Slender-billed vultures.
A number of other species that we usually consider ourselves lucky to see one or two of in neighboring countries were seen in abundance, such as Rufous-winged Buzzard, Black-headed Woodpecker, and Comb Duck.
