The Last Viking: Three Steps back
An examination of the "Committee on Public Expenditure" Report, 3 May 1864, reveals that $9700 had been budgeted in 1863 and 1864 for the express purpose of extinguishing First Nations' claims to the Cowichan, Chemainus, and Saltspring Island Districts, monies that were never spent.
Although he was probably encouraged to travel to the region at the invitation of Chief Tsulchamet, by May 1852 he ran into difficulties with the Cowichan First Nation and was ultimately driven from the valley...
It would seem that the end of the First Millennium was not only noteworthy for the establishment of the first Viking Settlements on the west coast of Greenland, it was also around this time that the Arctic Dorset peoples mysteriously disappeared and the Thule peoples simultaneously emerged to take their place.

Whitefish Lake First Nation v. Director, Northwest Boreal Region, Alberta Environment, re: Tri Link Resources Ltd.
[3] The Appellant is the Whitefish Lake First Nation (First Nation), whose claimed "traditional territories" include the area in which the Seal plant is located.
The First Nation's Notice of Appeal demonstrates that the object of the First Nation's Appeal is the Director's amended Approval and that the relief requested by the First Nation is, not a broad declaration regarding its legal rights, but simply a withdrawal of the amended Approval.
The First Nation has appealed the Director's decision to issue a Division 2, Part 2 "approval amendment" and, thus, the Board clearly has jurisdiction to review the decision being appealed by the First Nation.

Joint Strategic Plan for Management of Great Lakes Fisheries
At that time, the ecosystem approach to Great Lakes management already was accepted by the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and the International Joint Commission, and recognized that any impact on a part of the system may to some degree affect an entire lake, connecting channels, and even the entire basin.
The Chippewa/Ottawa Treaty Fishery Management Authority and the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission join with the twelve earlier signers of the Joint Strategic Plan for Management of Great Lakes Fisheries in accepting and adopting the Plan as originally signed on 17 June 1981 at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

 Robinson Huron Projects
Relative to other large lakes within Ontario, on which FWIN assessments have been undertaken, the walleye population of Lake Nipissing exhibits a low mean age, consists of a lower number of year classes, a high ratio of mature males to females and low abundance.
Beausoleil First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, and Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve all have active commercial fisheries and are interested in taking a more active role in the management of fish populations in their traditional harvesting areas.
Lake whitefish may have been over-harvested in the 1950's but this population appears to be healthy.
