Allegheny County was officially created in 1788 due to pressure from settlers living in the area around Pittsburgh, which became the county seat in 1791.
Allegheny County is known for the three rivers that flow through the county and meet in Pittsburgh: the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers.
In the county, the population is spread out with 21.90% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 28.30% from 25 to 44, 23.40% from 45 to 64, and 17.80% who are 65 years of age or older.

 Whitehall History
Whitehall Camp is at the “Gateway to oil country where history and scenic views intertwine.” We are located on the eastern hill of the Allegheny River above the town of Emlenton, PA, about a 2 mile drive.
Historically the Allegheny River has provided access to the Northwestern area of Penn’s Woods, named after Sir William Penn. From the forests north floating flotillas of logs as well as shipments of building stone needed in Pittsburgh brought businessmen to the area.
Whitehall was lead by visionaries who saw that stewardship of God’s resource meant that year round activities would need to be planned.

The municipalities and authorities must work with the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority and each other to identify strategies and controls that will bring their sewer systems into compliance with the Clean Water Act.
