Whitehall, New York, steeped in Revolutionary War history, is still the link between America and Canada through Lake Champlain and it's highway and rail links.
The Whitehall, New York area boasts a wonderful lifestyle afforded by the natural assets of the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the shores of both Lake George and Lake Champlain.
The Whitehall Chamber of Commerce will be appointing a Nominating Committee (for December voting) at the October meeting of the Board of Directors and we want input from all the membership before that.

 Skenesborough (Whitehall, NY) -- A Site on a Revolutionary War Road Trip
Whitehall was settled in 1759 at the southern end of Lake Champlain.
Founded as the colonial town of Skenesboro by British Army Captain Philip Skene, this community became the first permanent settlement on Lake Champlain.
Both were blown up in Whitehall harbor by their crews, July 6, 1777 to avoid capture by the British.

Hampton, a town on the Vermont border that is north of Granville and east of Whitehall, has remained basically an agricultural community since its official organization in 1786.
In one season around 1870 when the town was called Hampton Corners, a cheese factory in town used over 1.5 million pounds of milk produced by 400 cows from surrounding farms.
Children in Low Hampton are part of the Whitehall Central School District with all of them going by bus to Whitehall Elementary or Whitehall High School.

 Skenesborough Museum, Whitehall, New York
In 1960, the same year the NY State Legislature recognized Whitehall as the Birthplace of the US Navy, based on historical events, the state entered into a lease of the building and property as long as it is a museum.
The Historical Society of Whitehall was original formed in 1911 and reactivated in 1951.
Through the efforts of Doris B. Morton, Town and Village Historian, the Town entered into a 99 year agreement with NY State as long as the building remained a museum.
