Organized on February 7, 1835 and declared an independent county as of April 1, 1838, Whitley County, Indiana was named in honor of Col. William Whitley, of Lincoln County, Kentucky, who was killed at the Battle of of Thames River in Canada during the War of 1812.
As the early settlers cleared acre upon of acre of land in those early days, they uncovered a great wealth in the fertile soils of the county, providing the backbone of the agricultural community which still exists today.
The Genealogical Society of Whitley County also has an excellent site where much information can be found.

On Monday afternoon, officials at the Knox County 9-1-1 Center were notified of a logging accident on Jeffs Creek in the Stinking Creek area of Knox County.
According to Knox County Chief Deputy Coroner Jerry Wayne Garland, Roger Lee Mills, 56, of Indian Hills Estates, was operating a bulldozer skidding logs when the accident occurred.
Efforts to build a fieldhouse at the site of the new Knox County High School got a big boost this weekend, thanks to the generosity of local merchants and the support of the citizens of Knox County.

Units from Churubusco Fire, Huntertown Fire, Whitley County Medic 21, Medic 11, Allen County Sheriff and Churubusco Police all responded.
In the meantime, fire units had to responded directly past the accident scene to assist Arcola and Washington Twp.
