Whitley Strieber Rallies UFO Faithful, Rails Against 'Denial'
Strieber received the praise with a mixture of gratitude toward the UFO community and rancor toward cultural forces that have abandoned the phenomena of flying saucers and alien abduction stories to the scientific ghetto.
More than any UFO encounter in the last four decades, Strieber's experience with the uncanny visitors that lurk behind the impassive masks of the now-ubiquitous "Gray aliens" has transformed the way we think about aliens and flying saucers, what they are and what they want from us.
A glowing shape in the dark that Strieber said was an alien captured on film in someone's backyard turns, then hunches away from the camera…..

 The "Transformation" of Whitley Strieber
Whitley Strieber, author of such popular works of fiction as "The Wolfen", and "The Hunger", as well as the best-selling and supposedly true accounts of humanoid visitation in "Communion" an "Transformation", indignantly refused to let the hosts of the show do any promotion of his latest book!
Whitley said nothing, and still was refusing to allow the hosts to mention the name of the book he came to promote, or to show its cover.
Strieber is far from the first person in history to experience visions of bizarre beings, and then become transformed into a tireless evangelist seeking to convince the world that they are real.

 Whitley Strieber
Strieber is also famed for his contributions to the horror genre, especially The Wolfen and The Hunger.
It would seem that Strieber is trying to establish himself as a kind of "objective observer" as he often speaks pejoratively of New Ager and UFO enthusiasts in an attempt to distance himself from the so-called "kooks" on the fringe.
Strieber's other recent endeavors include a series of books allegedly inspired by a mysterious visitor who appeared to Strieber in his Toronto hotel room in June of 1998.

Abducted in 1987 from his upstate New York cabin by a "visitor," Strieber is taken by UFO to Boulder, Colo., where he holds down his friend Dora Ruffner while her small daughter has her spine hammered by an insectoid alien.
Strieber's days of being taken seriously ended with this highly subjective attempt to understand just what the Visitors are trying to accomplish with himself and other abductees.
Strieber makes a sloppy (and some what disturbing) argument that he is some kind of Chosen One, being granted visions to help enlighten others.

Strieber manages the plot built on those premises as a breakneck race to find the child and, depending on which faction the characters belong to, protect or destroy it.
Whitley tells us in the only way he knows we will be most open-minded to listen, is that the Grays are here, the American military knows about it and is secretly involved with them, and most importantly, that there is a wonderful purpose behind them being here.
Whitley simply uses fiction as a framework for constructing an inspiring metaphor describing the great hope that the future of humankind and other alien species have waiting for us all, when the time is right for such things to occur.

The accounts both Striebers gave under hypnosis and the memories that surfaced after hynosis, as well as several witnesses to aspects of the visitations all corroborate that something abnormal occurred.
Strieber is careful not to jump to any conclusions; in fact, he philosophizes at length about the possibilities which include aliens, an as yet unidentified aspect of the human mind, or some generally invisible earth inhabitant such as fairies.
Strieber's experiences with missing time, bizarre implants, and the now farmiliar Grey creatures are riveting and offputting at the same time.

In fact, Strieber borrows liberally from his malignant muse, adapting that author's concept of a monstrous alternate dimension and even giving Lovecraft's ubiquitous whippoorwills a cameo appearance.
Not long after physicist Brian Kelly and his pregnant wife hear human screams coming from within a dirt mound, inhabitants of their upstate New York town are attacked by wasp-like fireflies, women transformed into grub-like creatures are dug from the earth and an otherworldly being terrorizes motorists from its Dodge Viper.
Strieber's updates and additions to Lovecraft's original ideas--for instance, the sexual component of gruesome death scenes--provide ample suspense and gore, even if the final battle has few fresh twists.

Strieber is probably the most notable personality to emerge from the UFO culture since the famed abduction of Betty and Barney Hill.
Strieber's weird accounts of contacts with nonhuman intelligences (he's reluctant to call them "aliens" until he can better understand the nature of his experiences) are perplexing and fairly unique among the abduction literature.
His humility and willingness to question the apparent reality of his visitations were traits lacking in the "contactees" of the 1950s, who more or less divulged the secrets of the universe to anyone willing to listen.
