This "extra dimension" is only visible within a relatively close range to the hose, just as the extra dimensions of the Calabi-Yau space are only visible at extremely small distances, and thus are not easily detected.
In principle, therefore, it is possible to deduce the nature of those extra dimensions by requiring consistency with the standard model, but this is not yet a practical possibility.
compactify the extra dimensions; i.e., the 6 or 7 extra dimensions are so small as to be undetectable in our phenomenal experience.

NOVA The Elegant Universe Imagining Other Dimensions PBS
String theorists are betting that extra dimensions do indeed exist; in fact, the equations that describe superstring theory require a universe with no fewer than 10 dimensions.
The mathematics used in superstring theory requires at least 10 dimensions.
The extended dimensions are the three spatial dimensions that we're familiar with, and the curled-up dimension is found deep within the extended dimensions and can be thought of as a circle.

Hunting for Higher Dimensions: Science News Online, Feb. 19, 2000
It examined the consequences of extra dimensions being 10,000 trillion times larger than the extra dimensions of string theory are typically imagined to be.
To find extra dimensions of the type studied by the CERN group, experimenters are on the alert for what they call Kaluza-Klein towers, which are associated with carriers of the nongravitational forces, such as the photon of electromagnetism and the Z boson of the weak force.
If there were two extra dimensions, however, each would have a scale of 0.1 to 1.0 mm—large enough to be detectable but small enough not to be ruled out by tests of the inverse-square law to date.

Hot Topics in Phenomenology: Theories with Extra Dimensions
The motivation to invoke the existence of extra dimensions beyond the usual three spatial dimensions and one time dimension is to unify the forces of nature in a single framework.
Our contributions range from the formulation of the low-energy effective theories to obtaining constraints on the sizes of these extra dimensions from precision measurements at colliders and from astrophysical measurements of the energy-loss rates in stars and supernovae.

UW physicists find that extra dimensions must be smaller than 0.2 millimeter
It requires that there be 10 space dimensions, and it usually assumes that seven of those dimensions are curled up in regions so tiny they cannot be detected by current technology.
Extra dimensions would be a millimeter in size or smaller and, until now, no experiment could have detected them.
A new development in that theory suggests that gravity's apparent weakness could be caused by a unique property allowing gravity to leak off into "extra" dimensions, while everything else is confined to the normal dimensions of length, width and height.

The dimension of the voids, about 10.26 cm and more, is also explained by the lower ray of gravitation of the superclusters of galaxies of about 10.25 cm.

According to   string theory then, we live in a universe where our three familiar dimensions of space are “flat”, but there are additional dimensions which are curled-up very tightly so that they have an extremely small radius: 10
Unfortunately, since gravity is a very weak force and since the radius of extra dimensions is tiny, it could be very hard to see any effects, unless there is some kind of mechanism that amplifies the gravitational interaction.
If the extra dimensions were indeed so large, the laws of gravity would be modified at distances comparable to the size of the extra dimensions.

Some theories contend that we are not aware of the extra dimensions because they extend only a very short distance, far smaller than the size of an atom.
Yet another way of playing with spacetime is to introduce a new dimension essentially infinite in extent but one in which gravitons, the carriers of gravity, would largely be locked up in localized regions, at least in the extra dimension.

 .40 S&W - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The case of the original 10 mm Auto had the same head dimensions as the old.30 Remington that was designed in about 1906 for the Remington Model 8 semi-auto deer rifle.
With the.40 SandW being shorter than the 10 mm Auto and approximately the same length as the 9 mm Luger cartridge, many existing 9 mm Luger pistols could be adapted by their respective manufacturers to fire the new cartridge.
The 10 mm Auto gave performance akin to the.41 Magnum pistol round, and recoil and muzzle blast, especially in a short barrel were found to be just too much for many shooters.

 Services - Customer Dimensions
Losing a customer not only forfeits the lifetime value of that customer's business; it also poisons potential business with an estimated 2% of future customers, who hear negative "word-of-mouth" (each dissatisfied customer eventually tells over 10 people about the bad experience).
Customers demand performance, high quality, fast service and a highly trained and knowledgeable staff, all the while insisting on superior value.
Advertising expenses for new customers, and the costs of losing old customers, make customer satisfaction a critical success factor for many businesses.

Re: How Many Dimensions Can There Be?
String theory is a quickly-evolving field (the jump from 10 to 11 dimensions was only made in 1995!), so many questions are still open.
For multi-dimensional string theories with 3 extended space dimensions, 1 time dimension, and a bunch of other compacted space dimensions...
Becase these particles are not seen in nature, one can conclude that 11 dimensions is the upper limit in order to match up the theory with our universe.

While customer satisfaction is necessary to any success business, we are learning that satisfaction alone is not enough to build a loyal customer base.
Behind all the buzzwords was the belief that customer satisfaction produces positive financial results, especially in repeat business.
