The county should not be confused with the far better-known city of Wichita, located roughly 250 road miles (400 km) away, in south-central Kansas.
In the county the population is spread out with 28.70% under the age of 18, 7.30% from 18 to 24, 25.70% from 25 to 44, 22.30% from 45 to 64, and 16.00% who are 65 years of age or older.
