Given the locations of all the crater chains that pictures are available for, along with the known physical data of the strike areas, the obvious possible causes are narrowed down considerably.
It is also noted that the small variations in size of some of the craters in the chains could be due to the density and general geo-morphology of the surface being impacted.
It's not surprising that crater chains are rare compared with the number of single-impact craters, but I don't think we need to invoke alien civilisations as their most likely cause.

In combination with the crater assemblages for which we exclude an anthropogenic origin likewise, an extraterrestrial relation of the phenomenon is the simplest and most probable explanation.

Scheele is a tiny, bowl-shaped lunar impact crater that lies on the Oceanus Procellarum, to the south of the small Wichmann crater.
To the southwest is the flooded Letronne crater remnant.
Just to the west of Scheele crater are several low ridges projecting above the surface of the lunar mare.

Although you cannot help but be drawn visually to this crater, let's start at the southern limb near the terminator and work our way up.
Caught on the southeast wall is Rutherford with its central peak and crater Porter on the northeast wall.
If you look closely a Wichmann you will see it is a small impact on what looks to be the remains of a long flooded, and terribly eroded crater.

It had taken a direct hit by a bomb and there was only a large crater full of bricks and rubble.

But I can tell you exactly how fast I'm going.
If we take the scale bar at face value 100 km, and assume a fllat projection, I get an average diameter of 34.1 km with a standard deviation of 4.7 km.
