Geelong, Australia: For immediate release: Wieke Hoogzaad of the Netherlands made a little history today in Geelong, Australia by giving her native country it’s first World Cup victory in women’s Triathlon history.
Lindquist held onto her lead through the first three laps of the bike, as a group of 10 formed the chase pack behind, including Wieke Hoogzaad (NED), Melissa Ashton (AUS), Nadia Cortassa (ITA), Leanda Cave (GBR), Spanish teammates Pilar Hidalgo and Ana Burgos as well as Savege, Montgomery and Taylor.
  Hidalgo retained her slight lead on Montgomery, Hoogzaad and Lindquist until the final lap when she dropped of the pace and was caught by Savege.

Twenty-eight-year-old Walton dominated the race to cross the finish line in a time of 1 hour 55 minutes and 59.7 seconds - more than 1:40 minutes in front of New Zealand's Hamish Carter (1:56:59.7), with fellow Kiwi Bevan Docherty third (1:57:27.4).
In the women's event, 33-year-old Dutch triathlete Wieke Hoogzaad broke through for her first World Cup win, edging out world number one Barb Lindquist and the 2002 Commonwealth Games champion, Carol Montgomery.
Hoogzaad broke from her highly credentialed opponents just 100 metres from the line, sprinting to cross the tape in 2:08:58.3, two seconds in front of the USA's Lindquist second in 2:09.00, with Montgomery third just a shave behind in 2:09.07.

National Triathlon Training Centre athlete Carol Montgomery had a strong race at the Geelong ITU World Cup, ending in a 3rd place podium finish.
Wieke Hoogzaad (NED) took top spot on the women's podium followed by Barb Lindquist (USA) in 2nd place and Montgomery in 3rd, after having run the final lap together.
Craig Walton (AUS) took 1st place in the men's event.
