Engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the context of propulsion systems, an air breathing engine is one that uses atmospheric air to oxidise the fuel carried, rather than carrying an oxidiser, as in a rocket.
Human power was focused by the use of simple engines, such as the capstan, windlass or treadmill, and with ropes, pulleys, and block and tackle arrangements, this power was transmitted and multiplied.
Design changes incorporated all known methods of raising engine capacity, including increasing the pressure in the cylinders to improve efficiency, increasing the size of the engine, and increasing the speed at which power is generated.

 Wikinfo | Wiki
"Wiki wiki" means "fast" in the Hawaiian language, and it is the speed of creating and updating pages that is one of the defining aspects of wiki technology.
In traditional wikis, every page has two representations: the form in which it is displayed (usually HTML/XHTML versions, rendered by a web browser) and the form in which it is edited (a simplified markup language, the style and syntax of which varies from wiki to wiki, called "wikitext").
While most wiki communities shun mandatory registration procedures, virtually all large wiki engines provide some way to restrict users who consistently violate community rules, and Wikinfo is one of the few requiring registration.

Doom rendering engine - Doom Wiki - A Wikia wiki
The Doom rendering engine (sometimes referred to only as the Doom engine) is the game engine that powers Doom and its sequels, as well as Hexen, Heretic, Strife, HacX, and a few other games produced by id Software licensees.
The source code for the Linux version of Doom was released to the public in 1997 under a license that granted rights to non-commercial use, and re-released under the GNU General Public License in 1999.
The Doom engine renders the walls as it traverses the BSP tree, drawing subsectors by order of distance from the camera (i.e., the closest segs are drawn first).

Wiki software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The primary difference between wikis and more complex types of content management systems is that wiki software tends to focus on the content, at the expense of the more powerful control over layout seen in CMS software like Drupal, WebGUI, or at the expense of non-wiki features (articles, blogs,..) like in Tikiwiki.
"Wiki software" could be interpreted as comprising all of the software required to run a wiki, which might include a web server such as Apache, in addition to the "Wiki engine" itself, which implements the wiki technology.
Many wikis are highly modular, providing APIs which allow programmers to develop new features without requiring them to be familiar with the entire codebase.

Wiki: What Is Wiki   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser.
Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.
Wiki is unusual among group communication mechanisms in that it allows the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.

 CommunityWiki: TooManyWikiEngines
The different wiki engines are like lots of small tidepools, each of them with a few unique features, most features being stuck to their WikiEngine.
Similarly, it is hard for a new feature or a new WikiEngine to be adopted by many wiki communities; wiki communities are “stuck” with their current wiki engine, because it is hard to move the content to a new one.
But ideas like making it easy for individuals and wiki communities to change WikiEngines, and making it easier to merge different wiki forks seem to be different from that (although related in that the ultimate goal of both is to speed up wiki software evolution).

Wikinfo | Critical views of MediaWiki
MediaWiki is a wiki engine, a software package which one installs on a web server in order to create a wiki.
It is true that wikis with MediaWiki installed and maintained properly can sometimes be great places to participate, but some wikis are using MediaWiki when they should be using something else.
A wiki with free links such as MediaWiki needs two features, one to search for a term, and one to find backlinks ("what links here"), because the words are not always linked.

 SDL:Tutorials:Simple Engine Framework - GPWiki
To use the engine just involves creating a new engine class and inheriting properties of the original engine class.
As the virtual functions are overloaded by the new engine class, they will be called by the original engine framework, thus creating event-type functions for doing calculations, rendering etc. at the right times.
This engine is by no means perfect or complete, and it's still a work in progress.

Ageia physX (http://www.novodex.com) is a rigid body dynamics engine that shares a geneology with ODE (both were largely written by ex-MathEngine employees) as well as many architectural similarities.
That is, there is no major functionality that is missing from one as compared to the other, the workflow is identical, and simulations built using one engine can be converted to the other with a single click.
However, because physX is a superior physics engine (more on that later), simulations built with physX are far less likely to require parameter tweaking in order to be stable.

The wiki forum was inaugurated in the Internet domain of Cunningham's software consultancy Cunningham and Cunningham, Incorporated, also in Portland, on March 25, 1995, as an automated add-on to its Portland Patterns Repository, a directory for publication of programming patterns which programmers sent by E-mail.
