WikiWikiWeb - The Wiki Wiki - a wiki about wikis from Wikia
Cunningham named WikiWikiWeb that way because he remembered a Honolulu International Airport counter employee telling him to take the Wiki Wiki Shuttle, a shuttle bus line that runs between the airport's terminals.
However, editors (so-called "wiki citizens" or "wikizens"), visitors and readers of the WikiWikiWeb took up the basic idea of making pages user-modifiable and created their own new wiki engines (programs which run wikis) and wikis, outside of the WikiWikiWeb.
A WikiWikiWeb user, programmer Ben Kovitz of San Diego, California, introduced the WikiWikiWeb to Larry Sanger of the Internet company Bomis on the evening of January 2, 2001.

WikiWikiWeb's focus on specialized programming makes its content relatively unintelligible to people outside the programming sphere, but, nevertheless, editors (so-called "wiki citizens" or "wikizens") and visitors and readers of the WikiWikiWeb took the idea of making pages user-modifiable outside the WikiWikiWeb and created their own new wiki engines (programs which run wikis) and wikis.

WikiWikiWeb is the original and wildly successful Wiki was created by WardCunningham in 1995:
That's what's saddest to me - it used to be pretty cool to have a place where you could exchange views and collaborate on content with the high-powered folk on the WikiWikiWeb, but I think all those guys must be spending their time in different circles now.
Perhaps that was not enough to prevent spamming and botwars, and Ward took the WikiWikiWeb offline until he had a better solution.

 PmWiki | PmWiki / WikiWikiWeb
WikiWikiWeb is an "open-editing" system where the emphasis is on the authoring and collaboration of documents rather than the simple browsing or viewing of them.
The basic concept of a WikiWikiWeb (or "wiki") is that (almost) anyone can edit any page.
While at first this sounds like a recipe for complete anarchy, the truth is that sites using this system have developed surprisingly complex and rich communities for online collaboration and communication.

In the WikiWikiWeb, the WikiWord page name is the last part of the URL; in the Swiki model, pages are numbered, which means you easily rename a page while you're editing it, and once saved, the change is reflected throughout the database.
