FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) are a series of questions and answers all pertaining to a certain topic.
The FAQ is an Internet textual tradition originating from a combination of mailing list-laziness plus speculation and a separate technical and political need within NASA in the early 1980s.
FAQ, also going as FA-Q and later Foolish American Quartet, were a 4 man punk/grunge band hailing from Kalamazoo Michigan from 1986 to the mid 90s.

So the only way the content of wikipedia can be forked into an unfree version is for every single one of the now thousands of past and present contributers to agree to a change in the license that covers their work.
The source code does not seem to be available at sourceforge, the pointers provided point back to wikipedia and engage an infinite loop back and forth.
At this point I will probably conclude this is a truely free project that could be forked at whim (as long as the GPL and GFDL are complied with) when I manage to get a local test mirror up and running with a current snapshot.

But even then, you'll have to judge the results based on the articles themselves, rather than the credentials of their writers (which is itself often an unreliable way to determine credibility, as you know).
Most of us would probably prefer that you link to the homepage (http://www.wikipedia.com) so that people get a clear idea of what the site is, and (we hope) become interested enough in it to contribute.

The FAQ system was designed a long, long while ago, when LiveJournal was much smaller, had many fewer features than it currently does, and many fewer users than it currently does, an so on.
Historically, I think that the general priorities have been to have the FAQ as a support tool first, then a reference manual, and finally as a set of questions and answers.
Now, as you may have surmised from my general rantings, and from the fact that "last edited by rho" shows up at the bottom of several of the FAQs (example), this is the one thing which I actually can do something about.
