Meta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In organic chemistry, "meta" (along with "ortho" and "para") is used to distinguish the three types of isomer of disubstituted benzenes: it indicates that the substituents are at locants 1 and 3.
Meta (Greek: "about," "beyond"), is a common English prefix, used to indicate a concept which is an abstraction from another concept, used to analyze the latter.
For example "metaphysics" refers to things beyond physics, and "meta language" refers to a type of language or system which describes language.

Meta tag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Meta tags have been the focus of a field of marketing research known as search engine optimization or SEO.
In the early 2000s, search engines veered away from reliance on Meta tags, as many web sites used inappropriate keywords or were keyword stuffing to obtain any and all traffic possible.
An alternative to meta tags for enhanced subject access within a website is the use of a back-of-book-style index for the website.

 Wikipedia - Anarchopedia
There are no designated editors to make final decisions, in any language, instead this is a power struggle of sorts, with a GodKing who speaks only English and can't possibly read all the disputed articles or judge their content.
It suffers from a combination of software deficiencies and a developer and sysop power structure that is the opposite of democratic, and strongly favours insiders over outsiders.
Analogue situation is relation between anarchism and capitalism: capitalism has power structure which is opposite to anarchism; capitalism teaches us what to do and what not to do in anarchism; capitalism is bad, but it is better then feudalism; the question is: would (contemporary) anarchism exist if capitalism didn't exist.

These ideals wikipedia sets up for itself are important for it to be trusted, and for it to be a non-partisan neutral source of information.
I was just reading random wikipedia articles, and came across one linked from the main page on Joshua Norton, Emperor of the United States, and Protector of Mexico.
The real debates happen in another area, meant for pages that probably don’t belong, but are not obvious nonsense, this is where the List of left-wing organizations in the USA found itself.

There is no real agreement on best practices, see http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/faction for a list of various ways to discuss it and what issues are considered important by different groups and what "factions" have formed.
Other projects, like Disinfopedia and Consumerium, use both this software and the GNU FDL license without Invariant Sections (so far), so that copying text back and forth from any of these projects is a cut and paste with no legal ramifications.
Most likely, it will set that standard since no other project will be able to claim to have worked out the details of so much complex presentation of information and such a wide base of end users with no particular background, in so many languages.

Should Wikipedia Use Profanity - Meta
If a person knows that she won't have to fight with the community over the professional use of such language, she would be more apt to produce an article on the subject.
We have enough edit wars as it is, without trying to reach an agreement about whether that checkbox should be checked or not.

 Defnyddiwr:Arwel Parry - Wicipedia
For bigger wikipedia, it is also interesting to set a goings-on page to relieve the local village pump, often clogged with information request.
It would be great that each wikipedia in time, set a similar page, so that information could flow more easily between wikipedia.
For small wikipedias, it makes sense to merge the goings-on in the village pump, perhaps by making a separate paragraph.

It serves for TheCabal to isolate ideas and arguments that they find displeasing by removing them from WikiPedia proper, starving them of the oxygen of publicity, and ensuring that they are rapidly stillborn.
Ideas and arguments that TheCabal approve of remain on WikiPedia proper, and attempts to apply the same criteria to such pages as those created by so-called "trolls" forcefully resisted.

Giving a link to existing WikiPedia article is not encouraging WRITERS to contribute to WikiPedia instead of WikiTravel -- it's giving an extra benefit to READERS who came to WikiTravel, like its idea and are grateful for relevant info, even if it's not right on the same page.
What we want is for people to take the time to write their subject up from a travel perspective.
This is hard-coded in a number of places in the MediaWiki code, and it'd be a bit of effort to change that each time I updated the software for Wikitravel.

 Wikitext standard - Metaweb
Metaweb would be best off developing standards for source authentication (as also addressed in simple ideology of Wikitax) and linking all mentions of one particular human body (as per meta-wikipedia's person DTD proposal).
This may eventually relieve the dependence on mediawiki and let other suites such as tikiwiki or MoinMoinWiki be used, or entirely new programs to develop to manipulate the Metaweb.
Tracking the projects which have the strictest requirements, and noting discussion at those projects about those requirements (only), seems like the wisest way to track progress towards a wikitext standard and associated capabilities like a wikitext DTD - on which a metaweb DTD would be based.

This would be useful for meta.wikipedia and interlanguage redirects as well.
Right now the #REDIRECT [[ns:link]] function doesn't work with namespaces outside of www.wikipedia.org (such as meta, and the various languages.
It would probably be good (and easy?) to change it so that redirects can be set up naturally.
