Talk:Polish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For now, there is a lot of content which references Polish when they mean Polish language, Poland and Polish people (the last is currently a redirect to Poles, though this should probably be the other way around).
I suggest that Polish should eventually be a redirect to Polish language.
This page was last modified 12:55, 20 October 2004.

 Wikipedia:Redirect - Wikipedia
In accordance with wikipedia:naming conventions (precision) it's best to have an article at a well-defined, unambiguous term, with redirects from looser colloquial terms, rather than vice versa.
If the redirect is broken, meaning it redirects to an article that does not exist, it can be deleted immediately, though you should check that there is not an alternative place it could be appropriately redirected to first.
If the redirect was created by renaming a page with that name, and the page history just mentions the renaming, and for one of the reasons above you want to delete the page, copy the page history to the Talk page of the article it redirects to.

 Help:Namespace - Wikimedia Commons
An exception to the rule that the link label is the name used in the wikitext and not the converted name, applies if the target of a redirect is expressed using a project-independent namespace name: in that case the converted name is shown on the redirect page, compare [1] with the preview of [2].
Also you may go to a project page of a target language from a project page of a language familiar to you (e.g.) by clicking an interlanguage link, if applicable.
The last two are RTL languages which put the prefixes on the right.

 Wikipedia:Candidates For Speedy Deletion [Definition]
Before deleting such a redirect, it's a good idea to check to see if the redirect can be made useful by changing its target.
Except for minor edits, please make use of the discussion page to propose changes to this policy.
Some of these policies are still evolving, while others are long settled and largely uncontroversial....

Encyclopedia: Complete list of encyclopedia topics
If you find that there is no article to redirect the link to, but an article should exist, you can leave a short note to indicate this so no one duplicates your work, and to give a clue as to why the article deserves to be written.
Some of the links here can probably be "activated" with a sensible redirect; if you have a minute of spare time, please take a peek at some of the links.

Help:Page name - From Meta; discussion about Wikimedia projects
A saved redirect page shows the canonical form of the target, even though the preview renders the link in the usual way, compare [1] with the preview of [2].
The canonical form, shown in large font as page header, and in URLs generated by the system, is with on most projects with one capital; Klingon is an exception, see w:tlh:Chen'ay':h:h, where the c is converted to lower-case, and w:tlh:Qah:Page name, where the h is converted to upper-case.
The canonical form of a page name is shown in large font as page header.

 [Wikitech-l] cross-Wikipedia redirects
This would be useful for meta.wikipedia and interlanguage redirects as well.
Right now the #REDIRECT [[ns:link]] function doesn't work with namespaces outside of www.wikipedia.org (such as meta, and the various languages.
It would probably be good (and easy?) to change it so that redirects can be set up naturally.

 Wikipedia:Help - Wikipedia
Redirect one article title to another by placing a directive like the one shown to the right on the first line of the article (such as at a page titled "USA").
If you are making an article about something that belongs to a group of objects (a city, an astronomical object, a chinese character...) check out if there is a WikiProject on the group and try to follow its directions explicitly.
A Table of Contents will automatically be added to an article that has four or more sections.

They have made the wikipedia page the most valuable real-estate on the net regarding the given search term, so, now it's wikipdeia's problem, that page is going to be target of constant spam/attack/redirect attempts.
Now that wikipedia is in the top page, every poker spammer in the world is going to be trying to hijack that page.

There does not appear to be a link to Transwiki:Casualties of the September 11, 2001 attacks anywhere on the main page, but an old link to a redirect to the (now VFD'd) English wikipedia page remains on the bottom.
The very existence of a separate memorial page for the WTC attack violates the Wiki's NPOV policy, by seemingly placing a higher importance of this event over other happenings considered by many to be tragedies.
By hiving these pages off into a seperate wiki NPOV could be declared not to apply, so that families could write their personal tributes and that kind of thing.

Wikipedia:Manual of Style - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As a matter of truce both styles are acceptable (except for proper names), but a redirect should be created from the alternative form.
Some style authorities support the mandatory final serial comma, such as Fowler's Modern English Usage, the Chicago Manual of Style, and Strunk and White's The Elements of Style, while other style authorities recommend avoiding the comma where possible, such as that used by The Times and The Economist.
In articles about chemicals and chemistry, use the style of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) for chemical names wherever possible, except in article titles, where the common name should be used if different, followed by mention of the IUPAC name.

The contributor would think of it more as a cross-project redirect than something that merely should be mentioned "by the way," thus, they might believe that the module is somehow supposed to be sparse, and only link to the wikipedia.

Vaal Triangle Info Encylopedia - Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(technical_restrictions)
However, superscripts ¹, ², and ³ (which also exist on ISO 8859-1) do not have the same browser support limitations and can be used without problems, as long as a redirect from the title without the superscript is used.
Leading and trailing spaces and/or underscores (_) are stripped, multiple spaces and/or underscores are squashed together to a single underscore, and page names consisting of only spaces and/or underscores are not allowed at all.
Attempting to workaround using Unicode subscripts and superscripts does not work on all browsers (depending also on the installed fonts and operating system), and only a small number of subscript and superscript characters exist on Unicode.

Talk:Longest word in English - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyway, it appears that the original page consisted of one of the long words mentioned in this article (which I suppose is related to logology), and somebody made a redirect.
I think the keyboard ones should be moved to the QWERTY article since they are much more about the layout of that particular keyboard than they are about the "longest word in English" which they clearly have no real claim to.

Wikipedia:Why Wikipedia is not so great - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Why such transfers are not accompanied by a redirect from the removed page to the wiktionary entry is obvious, but is a source of confusion to those not in the know.
This results in most images being raster, which can be far more difficult to modify, so the images tend to lag behind the text of the articles.
Many people with causes come here to "get the word out" because publishers laugh at their stuff and site hosting costs money, so we get detailed articles about obscure activists, while the opposing establishment figures get stubs whose content is a litany of all the evil things they've done to the obscure activists, e.g.

User talk:Moosh88 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HOWEVER, if a Vilen becomes notable enough (say an emerging artist, actor, politician, etc.) to deserve his own article, then the creation of a Vilen given name page could be useful as a redirect toward that.
So if anybody/thing comes to be known as just "Vilen" as a nickname or somethng, that would justify a disambig page, or a sort-of-redirect page like Rick.
Although it is a common armenian surname, perhaps it belongs more on the armenian wikipedia as it does not meet the English wikipedia requirements for notability...

For articles about Taiwan, use Wade-Giles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wade-Giles) romanization (without the necessary apostrophes) for older and well-known place names and either Hanyu pinyin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin) or Tongyong pinyin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongyong_Pinyin) for lesser known placenames (depending on which political party is controlling the locality, but we won't delve into that mess here).
