 Meatball Wiki: WikiPediaIsNotTypical
WikiPedia has had two forks in its history: the Polish fork (which was resolved and re-integrated), and the Spanish fork (which continues, the forked project calling itself the EnciclopediaLibre).
The WikiPedia could be considered a bad example for this, because it originated in the earlier and commercial Nupedia project and used its infrastructure.
Indeed, given that WikiPedia is the largest wiki in existence, its nature may come to define what a wiki is, much like the OpenDirectoryProject has come to define what OpenContent is, even though ODP is not really open.

Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the German wikipedia, they have a nice tag (see de:Vorlage:Exzellent) on the Article page to show that it's a featured article; likewise, there is one to show that it's nominated (de:Vorlage:Kandidat) for featured article status, and that it's nominated for removal (de:Vorlage:Wiederwahl).
In wikipedia there is no problem to get participators to participate, but there is a quality problem instead.
I was mainly thinking this for students and researchers, or other knowledge societies, that might want to show their work in wikipedia.

 Wikipedia:Help - Wikipedia
If you use the Safari browser on Mac OS X, you may find that the 60-second browser timeout is shorter than the amount of time it takes for your edit to be acknowledged, especially when server load is high.
Internally, the first letter of the target page is automatically capitalized and spaces are represented as underscores (typing an underscore in the link has the same effect as typing a space, but is not recommended).
Depending on your system, pressing "Enter" while the edit box is not active (when there is no typing cursor in it) may have the same effect as pressing the "Save" button.

The village pump is not a place to make lasting comments as discussions are removed daily to make room for new ones.
You can view all village pump sections at once here.
Discussions older than 7 days (date of last made comment) are moved to a sub page of each section (called (section name)/Archive).

 Talk:Quest for gender-neutral pronouns - Meta
wikipedia is suppoed to reflect existing human knowledge, not be a place for creating new usage conventions.
Until there is, wikipedia should not use it -- except in articles about linguistics, or about such proposals as noteworthy events in themselves or the like.
I really strongly object to both "her" (it completely escapes me how if you're trying to be non-sexist, using the other gender pronoun is any improvement) and the various neologisms.

 Wikispecies:Village Pump - Wikispecies
Hi, I'm from the french wikipedia and I work a little bit to class some species, one of my principal sources is wikispecies.
We are currently still evaluating how to proceed with the project in terms of creating templates to structure our content, but already have a considerable collection of taxonomic names, literature references and links to encyclopaedic articles (at wikipedias in different languages).
If I were in Ecuador as er your example, I'd be searching in a Quechua Wiki to find out what the speces being talked about is, then use that to find the data in Wikispecies and create the appropriate interwiki link back to the Quechua 'pedia.

If wikipedia users do not want their user pages to be displayed for potential export into wikinfo then they should convince wikipedia not to export them via XML and should not put a GDFL notice on them.
Generally, we are not interested in WP talk pages, so your user page, which is linked by little else, had virtually no chance of being saved here in the first place.
Discussion and personal pages are not traditionally regarded as encyclopedic or parts of an encyclopedia and they reside in completely different namespaces from the encyclopedia, to keep them apart from the articles in that work.

RfCs which are brought solely to harass or subdue an adversary are highly frowned upon by the community.
List links to talk pages where participants cannot reach consensus and are thus stalling progress on the article, on one of the subpages listed below.
As a result, sometimes it's useful to request broader opinions from the rest of the community.

In the future, this kind of issue is best sent at foundation-l at wikimedia.org than to the technical list.

There are certain people, such as Stephen Huczko, who used to have an article on wikipedia, and that article has been moved to the sep11.wiki.
If the wikipedia tribute pages are made into orphan redirects to the sep11 wiki there should not be a problem.
IMHO it should at the very least be locked to stop the vandals, as no new content is ever added and there is in no way a community (see the section in meta:New project policy on closing inactive projects, of which this is surely one).

In correspondence with Mike at Techdirt.com, Fasoldt used terms like "repugnant" and "outrageous" -- terms which are clearly driven by fear or anger (the latter in any case usually being driven by fear).
These are both people in eroding professions, most likely looking to avoid challenges from "authorities" who aren't designated as "authoritative" by membership in their guild.

A stable article could be edited; as further updates are made to a stable article, they're made to an "unstable" version of the article, which would be linked from the article but not the default page for the entry.
And if an article looks out of date, anyone can still edit the articles - the edits, while still accessible by anyone, would only appear with some conscious effort, and the clear understanding that it may not be accurate.
It's worth noting that, for each of the articles, the flaws have already been, or are being, addressed.

Part of what makes wikipedia so fantastic is ability to explore, to make connections.
There are about 80 hits searching wikipedia for "1503" and there are 19 items (8/5/6 events/births/deaths).
This is after some work on my part to pull into the 1503 page events that I felt should be there, and linking references to 1503 that I found relevant.

As of May 1: Number 7 in the wikipedia village pump, the idea of a think tank is awaiting a good name.
Perhaps another little PR blitz could commence once we have demonstrated that this is a serious project: settle on a format and get more than 10 active contributors (we have 5 right now).
