 Wild America
"Wild America" bills itself as inspired by the true story of the Stouffer brothers, who grew up to film a documentary series of the same name about rare and endangered species.
There are encounters with an alligator and with a wild moose that scoops Marshall up on its antlers, and finally a confrontation with a cave full of hibernating grizzly bears (guarded by rattlesnakes and overseen by bats) that all wake up at the same moment and begin dancing in a circle.
If "Wild America" is barely in touch with reality, it has a slick storybook charm that should appeal to children who like animals and enjoy the great outdoors.

Wild America   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Wild America details the adventures of three brothers who happen to be amateur nature documentarians.
Wild America opens in the late 60s, where Marty (Scott Bairstow), Mark (Devon Sawa), and Marshall Stouffer (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) all work for their domineering father putting together and distributing carburetors.
On the whole, that shouldn't preclude Wild America from being entertaining, but the three boys are so flat and lifeless that the strained effort to include them in every scene they're attempting to document kills it outright.

But by the time the wild horse received federal protection in 1971, it was believed that only about 18,000 of them roamed America’s plains.
More than 1 million horses were conscripted for World War I combat; the rest had been hunted for their flesh, for the chicken feed and dog food companies, and for the sport of it.

I first saw this film in 1999 I loved it.The first thing that grabbed my attention was the 3 brothers and their relationship throughout the film and how it changes. The storyline with the youngest brother marshall was great. The film is like an adventure story, the type you would of loved to have gone on!
You wouldn´t know it by watching the mostly ridiculous escapades on display in Wild America, but this comedy/adventure for young boys is marginally based on the true story of Marshall, Mark, and Marty Stouffer, three young brothers who successfully pursued their dream of becoming wildlife filmmakers.
In other words, Wild America is about as contrived as it could possibly be and still claim to be based on reality, but it is harmless enough for young viewers with its wholesome message about bravery, hard work, and family togetherness.

This is the story of Marshall, Mark and Marty Stouffer the summer they took their first trip to film wildlife in America.
It is narrated from the standpoint of Marshall (the youngest brother played by Jonathan Taylor Thomas), but Mark (played here by Devon Sawa) was the only one of the three I noticed in the credits as being involved in the production of the movie.
I don't know how close the movie follows actual events in the lives of the three brothers, but it is a great movie.
