Wildcat cartridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A wildcat cartridge, or wildcat, is a custom cartridge for which ammunition and firearms are not mass produced.
Wildcat cartridges are developed for many reasons--generally the goal is to increase some characteristic of a commercial cartridge in a given context.
This cartridge was developed to produce ballistics to match the 125 grain (8.1 gram).357 Magnum revolver load in a semiautomatic pistol cartridge.

Wildcatting and 'improving' firearms - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Well, to start with, a wildcat cartridge is nothing more than a conventional factory case that has been swaged and fire formed to new dimensions.
In wildcatting, the case is reformed, swaged, fire-formed to different dimensions.
When the original 22 Hornet was introduced as a factory cartridge in the early 1930s, it took the shooting crowd, especially varmint hunters, by storm.

 A Cartridge Collector's Glossary
Cartridges thus designed were distinctive and although success was sparse, the concept continued into recent times and examples are highly sought-after.
INSIDE PINFIRE - A few types of extremely rare cartridges were ignited by the impact of the weapon's hammer on the wall of the cartridge case, causing ignition because of an internal mechanism including a rod or pin and priming compound.
NEEDLEFIRE - A type of cartridge designed for use in a gun whose firing pin is a long needlelike device which penetrates the base of the cartridge and impacts upon a primer at the base of the bullet.

WILDCATS are non standardized cartridges of private origin and therefore not commercially available.
Many cartridges were converted by reducing body taper plus creating a steeper shoulder for more powder space and some of these can even use factory ammunition for fireforming.
This cartridge was based on the case of the 276Enfield (top)  which was intended to become the new British service round when the First World War broke out and it seemed to be more reasonable to abandon this plan.

There are no standards for wildcat cartridge dimensions, but these are provided for the 6.5mm-284 in the sixth edition of the Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading: Bullet diameter.264"; Maximum case length 2.170" (trim to 2.160"); Maximum cartridge overall length 2.80"; Rim diameter.473"; Base diameter.500"; Shoulder diameter.475"; Shoulder angle 35 degrees; Neck diameter.295".
Unfortunately, the.284 Winchester parent cartridge is dying and brass is not widely distributed.
Whether it is worth owning a wildcat rifle to shoot a 1/2 millimeter smaller diameter bullet from the same case is the question.

The reason for these cartridges having this feature is due to the powerful 264 Winchester Mag, various 7mm Mags, and the 338 caliber magnum cartridges such as the 338 Winchester and 340 Weatherby Magnum.
These cartridges with their high velocities and traditional use on large game has resulted in bullet manufactures producing heavy, well-constructed bullets designed to perform well with these cartridges.

Every time the printer runs out of ink, the entire cartridge is replaced with a new one.
This adds to the cost of consumables and makes it more difficult to manufacture a high-precision head within reasonable cost limits, but also means that a damaged print head is only a minor problem: the user can simply buy a new cartridge.
