BIOPROJ.SABR.ORG :: The Baseball Biography Project.
Schulte's eccentricities weren't limited to his nickname, as he prompted Tinker to "doubt...whether a quainter or more original character ever existed in the National Pastime." Wildfire was known to comb the streets looking for hairpins; he claimed that they predicted his success in the batter's box.
Like others, Schulte was also known to blame his shoes for hitting slumps (ergo, the term "hitting shoes") and unlike others, to utilize unusually thin-handled, forty-ounce bats that were called "switches" by his peers.
Schulte never again approached his 1911 numbers, but he remained a productive power hitter for several seasons, hitting a dozen homers in both 1912 and 1915 to rank among the NL's top three in each season.

26/2/2005 -- Can a plucky minnow save the forests of Vaughan?
The redside dace "is an endemic minnow species that jumps out of the water to catch bugs in midair," according to Deborah Schulte of Vaughan, and it thrives in the cool, shaded waters of Purpleville Creek, a Humber River tributary that drains the still-rural northern reaches of the new "city" above Toronto.
Schulte is one of the new group's leaders.
Although the unprotected redside dace habitat represents a classic example of what environmentalists call a "Swiss cheese" hole in the proposed greenbelt -- it is surrounded on three of four sides by land slated for protection -- it also covers most of Vaughan's final frontier of urban growth.

Stories of unlikely occurrences spread, in the words of one anthropological report, "like wildfire" through preliterate societies.
The style of journalism they employed -- short sets of news items, forwarded from a particular city, written under the name of that city and the date on which they were sent -- was the style that would be used in most early printed newspapers.
As newspapers became more reliable and began appearing more frequently, they began to play a major role in commerce, through their advertisements and by printing price listings and market reports.
