The Wildfowl Trust, now in it's 31st year, is a wildlife reserve, which encompasses two lakes and about 25 hectares of land within a major petrochemical complex (PETROTRIN).
The Trust, a wetland habitat, is a peaceful haven where members (we have approximately 2,000) and visitors may relax, enjoy bird-watching, photography and interpretative trails.
In 1994, the Trust served as the environmental NGO on the Trinidad and Tobago Delegation to the United Nations Global Conference of S.I.D.S. where Karilyn Shephard also presented a paper on Environmental Education at the NGO Forum.

Demonstration wetland treatment systems are to be constructed at the Slimbridge and Martin Mere visitors centres which are owned by The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust which is dedicated to saving wetlands and conserving their wildlife.

I am not sure about the study aspect but some of the species are extremely rare and endangered nad the WWT has been one of the organisations at the forefront of maintaining breeding stocks.
Did you see the moorhen that nested on the walkway, the nest was made up a load of Swan feathers, I took some photoes of it but I don't think it would be allowed in the gallery.
There were many common wildfowl but also there were the rare ones such as the Freckled Duck and Pink-eared Duck from Australia, they were in an enclosure not easily accessed.
