		Will didnt because his loyalty to the Federation and Picard changed what he saw as right compared to Thomas who probalby felt quite abandoned by the Federation and had different loyalties.
		He was just trying to distinguish himself from "that other Will Riker." Maybe it was more that Tom felt there was no way to top "himself" in Starfleet so he decided to make a completely new name for himself as a Maquis than just that specific mission.
		Will had found his calling in life, while Thomas -- unfortunately -- was sidetracked for 8 years, stifling that ambitious spirit of his.
