Willard South Elementary, houses 343 students in grades K-4, is located near the edge of the city limits of Springfield on Division Street.
In the Spring of 2000, the Willard Band was invited to and participated in the "Easter in Maastricht" International Music Festival in The Netherlands, also touring Belgium and Germany.
Most recently the band was honored to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii in June of 2004.

WILLARD, Mo. (AP) _ A school band in Missouri is suing a Michigan travel agency for allegedly extorting tens of thousands of dollars stemming from a trip to perform in a Hawaii parade.
Willard Band Boosters and the school district in Willard, Missouri, are seeking damages from Performing Arts Abroad for breach of contract, fraud and violation of the Merchandising Practices Act.
According to the lawsuit filed last week in Greene County Circuit Court, band and school district officials reached an agreement with P-A-A two years ago for a June trip to participate in the Pan Pacific Parade and to perform at the Battleship Missouri Memorial.

Although Willard has a 'checkered' reputation, we have found it to be a very good experience for her because of the excellent teaching staff.
The Willard band now has about 25-30 kids, but the orchestra is down to six while many young string players opt for advanced algebra.

The popular band was the winner of the Eastern Illinois Fair Battle of the Bands contest in 1967, a time when the Beatles were influencing the music of the time, and the band's haircuts were its most controversial aspect.
His virtuosity on guitar and vocals made him a popular addition to the band, which became a staple on the Central Illinois music scene for over 25 years.
Tim played with Willard Cratchelow (named for a Dickens character and called simply 'Willard' for several years) on and off during that time, and also played for The Edge and No Secret in the late 1980's.

Piano player Will "Pop" Jones was one of the original Hawks, recruited to the group in 1957 by his cousins Ray and George Paulman, just before the first member of what later should become the Band, Levon Helm, took the drummer's seat in the Hawks.
Jones' style of piano playing, labeled "kamikaze rockabilly piano" by Helm and often causing piano hammers to come popping out, became one the Hawks' trademarks both live, on TV shows, and on their recordings.
