U.S. Senate Leadership Portrait Collection - html version
While the Senate has long honored vice presidents with marble portrait busts in the Capitol, this leadership series is the Senate's first effort to develop a comprehensive portrait collection of presidents pro tempore and majority and minority leaders.
Although several former leaders are already represented by paintings in the U.S. Senate Collection, a portrait of Majority Leader Howard Baker, Jr., of Tennessee by artist Herbert Abrams was the first piece acquired for the newly established Senate Leadership Portrait Collection.
This painting was presented as a gift to the Senate by the Dirksen Congressional Center in Pekin, Illinois.

Why does U.S. 3rd Circuit Court, based in Philadelphia, hear cases from Virgin Islands?
He suggested, however, that a Delaware senator pushed the idea for the logical reason that Philadelphia was only 90 miles from the 2nd Circuit in New York, which probably would have handled the islands if not for its huge caseload.
The politician, Willard Saulsbury Jr., became president pro tempore after the death of Sen. James P. Clarke of Arkansas in 1916.
He had chaired the Committee on Pacific Islands and Puerto Rico and he had once won an admiralty appeal in the 3rd Circuit involving a Wilmington couple's yacht.

Short History of the Delaware Chancery Court   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Chancellor Ridgely rightly deserves to be called "Father of Delaware Equity." Kensey Johns, Sr., Kensey Johns, Jr., Samuel M. Harrington, Daniel M. Bates, Willard Saulsbury and James L. Wolcott, highly talented legal scholars, each in turn followed by Ridgely as Chancellor.
As a result of the efforts of these able and respected jurists, Delaware did not resort to code pleading, where all distinctions between law and equity are abolished, or to a single court system with an equity and common law side.
