Willem Drees is a physicist and a theologian, and smart enough not to draw that unjustified conclusion.
Drees simply does not like the idea of a God that is so far in the future that he can have no possible current relevance, especially since we will all be resurrected anyway, saints and sinners alike.
Drees wants a God of the present, and argues that such a God is consonant with all the cosmologies considered.

Willem Drees (July 5, 1886-May 14, 1988) was a Dutch politician, prime minister of the Netherlands from 1948 until 1958, as a member of the social-democratic Dutch Labour Party (PvdA).
After his time as prime minister, Drees was still called upon in time of constitutional crisis, in 1966 he was member of the committee, which advised government on the ministerial responsibility towards members of the royal house, together with Pieter Oud.
Willem Drees would soon also leave the PvdA, leaving them without their icon, but never joined DS '70.

The recent gift to the IISH from his granddaughter Marijke Drees of three crates filled with thousands of photographs was particularly welcome.
The jewel in the crown is probably the elegant album "from his good friend Harry Truman," presented upon the "Visit of his excellency Willem Drees prime minister of the Netherlands to the United States of America January 12 to January 24 1952."

We're welcome to fill in the details from our own particular religious tradition, though we must understand that, like all traditions, it arose through "a long evolutionary process" for strictly functional reasons.
Drees is to be commended for his clear-sighted grasp of the drastic stripping-down of religion required to fit the naturalistic grid.
As Drees writes, "Our epistemic capacities arose because they were advantageous to our hominid ancestors." But in that case it is not clear why religious believers should feel compelled to redefine their beliefs to conform to what naturalistic scientists decree.

They invited Dr. Beel to remain as Minister of the Interior in their cabinet (the cabinet Schermerhorn Drees).
Drees appointed Dr. Beel High Commissioner of the Crown in the Dutch East Indies (now named Indonesia), as a successor to Lieutenant Governor General Dr. Van Mook, a man of proven managerial abilities, who unwillingly had to resign.

Willem Drees argues that religion and morality are to be understood as rooted in our evolutionary past and neurophysiological constitution.
Although I share his views, I understand that someone who didn't would be mildly challenged by Drees; I think he could probably be more convincing if he was more considerate of the reader, explaining his ideas and arguments more thoroughly.
I understand that he, and other academic writers, are under expreme pressure to "publish or perish." They don't have time (nor perhaps the ability, nor perhaps the charity) to edit and re-edit and craft sentences that make their point without anesthetics.
