JAE - D.51.97 Abstract   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Willem Marinus Dudok stands out from his Dutch and European peers for resisting the temptation to restrict his work aesthetically, and for his ability to connect the architectural past with the present.
A man who shunned dogma in a time when new architectural manifestores abounded, Dudok preferred to remain silent, leaving relatively few essays explaining his theoretical position or design methodology.
Dudok's work is fascinating because it succeeds in combining elements from contemporary movements as different as Expressionism, De Stijl, and Functionalism, in what could be termed a style-less architecture.
