 Ohio's Governor William Bebb
Ohio's nineteenth governor was William Bebb of Butler County, the third native Ohioan to be elected to the office.
William, the first of their three children, who was born on December 8, 1802, is said to have been the first white child born in Butler County west of the Great Miami river.
Governor bebb's term expired in December 1848, but his administration was continued until January 22, 1849, because of a delay in organizing the two houses of the assembly and in qualifying his successor.

Edward and Margaret Bebb's oldest child, William Bebb, was to become in turn local schoolmaster, lawyer, governor of Ohio from 1846-49, a campaign manager for Abraham Lincoln in the 1860 election, and to end his working life rewarded by a post as Chief Examiner in the U.S. Patents Office.
Ex-governor William Bebb visited Llanbrynmair in 1855 and persuaded his first cousin "S.R." and Gruffydd Rhisiart Roberts and their nephews William Jones and John Roberts Jones to support him on a venture to settle a group of Welsh people in East Tennessee.
William Bebb came in form much criticism at this time for involving the Welsh emigrants in such an ill-prepared venture, and for not taking part in the settlement.

William Bebb was born in Butler County, Ohio, on December 8, 1802, in the small town of Paddy's Run (later Shandon).
Bebb began practicing law in Hamilton, Ohio, first in the law office of John Woods and then as the junior partner of John M. Millikin.
Bebb ran against Democrat David Tod on the slogan “William Bebb and a Home Currency against David Tod and Pot Metal.” Bebb also campaigned on the issue of repealing Ohio's discriminatory laws against African Americans.

The first settler of Paddy's Run was Edward Bebb, who bought his land from a Squatter, and then a second time from the U.S. government, when its official purchase became possible in 1801.
Bebb married in 1802 and the first child's name was William, who is said to have been the first white child born on the west side of the Great Miami River in Butler County.
Since William Harvey drew up the plat for the town which was on his land, it was named in his honor.
