At latter place William Davidson, in spite of the opposition of the natives, who voted his death at one of their conventions in 1778, brought out a number of settlers from the old country to hew the lumber, and till some of the more fertile patches on the banks of that noble stream.
Davidson was given a new grant of land June 7, 1786, reduced in size to 14,450 acres, and consisting of a number of separate parcels of land on both branches of Miramichi river.

Davidson started to keep a diary, and it illustrates the persistence of his character that he has never missed a day in itemizing some fact connected with his individual history or otherwise, and the record now covers a period of fifty-seven years.
Davidson is not only an expert in the general technique of abstracting, but has almost perfect penmanship, acquired by long practice, and every paper that comes from his office bear the stamp of authority and of neatness and accuracy.

The four-inch by ten-inch leather wallet served as Gen. Davidson's briefcase, and was taken from him by the British troops who killed him at age 34 at the Battle of Cowans Ford on Feb. 1, 1781.
Following a public ceremony at the Davidson Town Hall, the wallet will be transported to the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park in Greensboro to become part of a year-long display chronicling the war's southern campaign.
Davidson is currently engaged in "Let Learning Be Cherished," a $250 million campaign in support of student financial assistance, academic resources, and community life.

William Lewis Davidson, soldier, lawyer, and judge, was born in Grenada, Mississippi, on November 5, 1845, the son of Asbury and Mary (Fly) Davidson.
In an autobiographical sketch written many years later, Davidson wrote that his company was an elite unit and the only one completely equipped with cavalry carbines, swords, and six-shooters west of the Mississippi.
Davidson suffered a stroke of apoplexy while fishing in Austin and drowned on January 25, 1921.
