William Pitt the Younger, second son of William Pitt the Elder (afterwards Earl of Chatham) and Hester Pitt, 1st Baroness Chatham, was born in Hayes, Kent.
William Pitt the Younger, sickly as a boy, was educated at home by the Reverend Edward Wilson.

William was buried at St. Botolph's, Knottingley on 29th July 1840 at the age of 66 so this corresponds with a baptism of 1774.
William was buried in grave number 3126B at Knottingley cemetery on 26th Jan 1877 ages 73 years and Ann buried in the same grave on 8th April 1885 aged 72 years, although both of these entries give the name as DOWNEY.
Alan knew that William Downing had married Ellen in Illinois and that she was from Knottingley and that they returned to England about 1870/71 and had about 11 children, the first being born in America.
