WILLIAM EDEN AUCKLAND, 1ST Baron (1745-1814), English statesman, son of Sir Robert Eden, 3rd Bart., of Windlestone Hall, Durham, and of Mary, daughter of William Davison, was born in 1745, educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford,.
Auckland was included in Granville's ministry of "All the Talents" as president of the board of trade in 1806.
On the death of his son George, 2nd baron and earl of Auckland (q.v.), the barony passed to the ist baron's younger son Robert John (1799-1870), bishop of Bath and Wells, from whom the later barons were descended, and who was also the father of Sir Ashley Eden (1831-1887), lieutenant-governor of Bengal.

NICHOLAS VANSITTART BEXLEY, Baron (1766-1851), English politician, was the fifth son of Henry Vansittart (d.
He began his public career by writing pamphlets in defence of the administration of William Pitt, especially on its financial side, and in May 1796 became member of parliament for Hastings, retaining his seat until July 1802, when he was returned for Old Sarum.
In February 1801 he was sent on a diplomatic errand to Copenhagen, and shortly after his return was appointed joint secretary to the treasury, a position which he retained until the resignation of Addington's ministry in April 1804.

 George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland
George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland, 2nd Baron Auckland (1784 - January 1, 1849), until 1839 was a politician of the United Kingdom.
On the death of his father in 1814 he became the 2nd Baron Auckland, since his elder brother had drowned in the River Thames in 1810.
He gave a commission to William Hobson to sail for the East Indies, which Hobson rewarded in the naming of his new town Auckland, New Zealand.

William Knox bgean life in Ulster as the precocious child of a strongly evangelical Anglican family, and throughout a long career spent in service to the crown, he girded himself with his faith and a dogged allegiance to imperial authority.
Under the political aegis of Richard Cox, the young man attracted the attention of Lord Halifax, and when Henry Ellis was appointed governor of Georgia in 1757, Knox followed with a seat on the colonial council and with the position of provost marshal.
Among the most interesting miscellaneous items is a lengthy letter from an elderly Knox to the great astronomer, William Herschel, regarding the motion of the planets and soliciting his ideas on the physical location of heaven in the new Copernican universe.
