Edmonstone House, the seat of John Wauchop, Esq., is a handsome modern mansion, situated in an ample demesne tastefully laid out, and embellished with thriving plantations.
The ancient castle of Sir John de Graham, the intimate friend and zealous adherent of Sir William Wallace, and who was killed while fighting by the side of that hero in the battle of Falkirk, is still standing, though in ruins; it appears to have been of great strength.
By the forfeiture of William Soules in the reign of Robert I., the barony of Nisbet became the property of Walter, steward of Scotland; and in 1371 the baronies of Nisbet and Ednam were granted by Robert II.

 NORWEGIAN EMIGRATION - THE DEBORA EXPEDITION
This wooden three-master of 744 tons, built in New Brunswick in 1849, was not of course a Byrne ship but the replacement for the Pallas, the vessel chartered by Henry Boast for his Yorkshire party and condemned as unseaworthy on the eve of sailing.
He was a warm advocate of the improved agricultural machinery which firms like that of William Crosskill of Beverley were now manufacturing.
It was evenutally decided to form a committee to study the details of Byrne's agreement with the Colonial Office, and to frame a plan for a co-operative system of settlement.
