Colonel William Wakefield (1801-1848), married 1826 to Emily Sydney, the fifth child of Edward Wakefield and Priscilla Bell, he was the leader of the first colonizing expedition to New Zealand and founder of Wellington.
Reading William's subsequent accounts of the deals he made with the Maori and also other accounts, such as that written by his nephew, Edward Jerningham Wakefield, who accompanied him on the expedition as acting secretary, every effort was made to fulfil these conditions.
William was quite clear that he had bought and paid for the land on behalf of the New Zealand Company but it soon emerged that despite his efforts the Maori had not fully understood the nature of the deal.

was born in Maryland in 1748, to Mary Wheeler and William Few Sr.
During the American Revolution, Few fought in the Battle of Burke County Jail, served in the state legislative sessions, and took part in the 1777 constitutional convention.
In 1786 Few was appointed to Congress by the state legislature; the next year he represented Georgia in the constitutional convention in Philadelphia that drafted the U.S. Constitution.

Ignatius Alphonso Few's father, Captain Ignatius Few, had served in the Revolutionary Army under Colonel William Candler and married Candler's daughter Mary before moving to Columbia County, Georgia, where the younger Ignatius was born.
Few was helped in his aspirations by a Methodist preacher named "Uncle" Allen Turner, whose only footprint in history is the remarks he made at the Georgia Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church held in Washington, Georgia, in 1834.
Almost all of the trustees of the school were appointed as trustees of the college, and Few, who had been president of the Manual Labor School Board of Trustees, was elected by the college's trustees to be president of the college.

William H. Burbank, a 23-year old clerk from Medford, Mass., responded to the Sumter crisis in April, 1861, by volunteering for three months' duty in the Lawrence Light Guard, later Co. E of the 5th Massachusetts Infantry.
