Hanna continued to work and grow and in the mid-1930's, he found himself in the position of director in the animation unit at MGM (his directorial debut was 'To Spring' in 1936).
William Hanna was one of the first animation producers (and definitely one of the biggest animation 'names') to embrace television as a viable outlet for his trade.
William Hanna is one of the few entertainers in the world who will live on, in work and influence for years to come.

Hanna, who had devoted 20 of his 27 years in animation to MGM was at first crushed, but realized that movies had begun to decline as America's top entertainment form, and that short films- especially animated films- had been fading from the theaters.
Hanna published the autobiography "A Cast of Friends" in 1996, and remained active as a television and film producer until he was slowed by illness late in the year 2000.
William Hanna died at his North Hollywood home in the company of his wife of 65 years, Violet Hanna, on March 22nd, 2001 at the age of 90.

William Bell Hanna, who as a young Bechtel Corp. engineer helped build an oil pipeline through the Venezuelan jungle and later was a supervisor at the huge shipbuilding program at Sausalito's Marinship during World War II, has died at the age of 89.
Hanna was sent to Bechtel's first overseas project, building a 78-mile pipeline from inland oil fields, through the jungle of Venezuela and to the coast.
Hanna is survived by his wife, Edith of Greenbrae; two daughters, Helen Black of Canton Center, Conn., and Carolyn Murphy of West Columbia, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

William Hanna (July 14, 1910 – March 22, 2001) was one-half of the television cartoon production team called Hanna-Barbera, who produced well-known cartoons such as Yogi Bear, George Jetson, Huckleberry Hound and Fred Flintstone.
Hanna first started his career when he learned that Warner Bros. were hiring staff for an animation division.
During this period, their most famous cartoon characters were the cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry, and in fact supplied all the screams and yelps of Tom, though this fact was never credited in the series.

In 1976, Hanna and Barbera received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; they were inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1993.
The collection of Hanna-Barbera characters remains popular: Hanna served as executive producer for Universal Pictures' 1994 live-action version of "The Flintstones," and production began this year on a live-action film based on "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?", which Hanna-Barbera produced for 17 years and maintains the title of television's longest-running animated series, according to Warner Brothers.
