William Buell (1792-1862), son of William Buell, U.E.L., the founder of Brockville, fought at Crysler's Farm and at Ogdensburg as a soldier in the ranks and later commanded a battalion of militia.
Henry William Finlay, son of William and Elizabeth BRIANT or 0'BRYAN, twin with the undermentioned, born February 14, 1827.
William Hayes Jackson rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the militia and, after service during the Fenian raids, was Deputy Adjutant-General at Brockville and London, Ont. He was also on the staff during the Northwest Rebellion of 1885 and retired in 1888, dying at Brockville.

William Parry Murphy was born on February 6, 1892, at Stoughton Wisconsin, U.S.A. He is the son of Thomas Francis Murphy and Rose Anna Parry, his father being a congregational minister with various pastorates in Wisconsin and Oregon.
William Parry was educated at the public schools of Wisconsin and Oregon and at the University of Oregon, where he took his A.B. degree in 1914.
For the next two years he taught physics and mathematics at the high schools of Oregon, and then spent one year at the University of Oregon Medical School at Portland, where he also acted as a laboratory assistant in the Department of Anatomy.

President Roosevelt's canal commissioners selected Reed's colleague Colonel William C. Gorgas to lead the anti-mosquito campaign.
Gorgas and his long-time associate Henry Rose Carter waged a ten-year war on Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes and checked the spread of yellow fever and malaria in the Canal Zone.
Finlay, Reed, Gorgas, and their many associates cleared the path for other students of yellow fever.

     An influential proponent of concrete poetry, Finlay moved from solely literary forms of poetry, drama, and short stories in the 1950's to kinetic forms of poetry expressed in stone, wood, neon and other tangible structures in the 1960's.
  Boats and boating, sails and the sea were used by Finlay to suggest poetic ideas in many of his poems such as Archangel of Archangel, Boatyard, Four Sails, The Four Seasons..., Homage to Gomringer, Little Drummer boy, The Old Nobby, Seashells, Sepia Barge and others.
