English navigator who discovered the Hudson River; in 1610 he attempted to winter in Hudson Bay but his crew mutinied and set him adrift to die (1565-1611).
Henry Hudson (place and date of birth are unknown, but September 12, 1570 seems likely; presumed to have died in 1611) was an English sea explorer and navigator.
Apparently the reports by Hudson of his voyage for the Dutch have been lost, but an account was given by Johannes de Laet in his work Nieuwe Wereldt ofte beschrijvinghe van West-Indien (first edition 1625).
