Victor William Horwood was born in Frome, Somersetshire, England, on 27 February 1878.
Victor Horwood was appointed Provincial Architect in 1911 and in that capacity did design work at the Agricultural College, (University of Manitoba (1911-1912), the Law Courts Building (1911-1915), and the Central Power House at 219 Memorial Boulevard (1911-1915).
Horwood's buildings in Winnipeg included St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Moxam Court, McMillan Court; the Ivan, Van Sittart, Waldron and Moore Buildings and residences.

This is Horwood's only book featuring humans whereas the other books feature humans masquerading as animals.
The extreme PC viewpoint is a little strained, all the disabled characters are intelligent, caring and thoughtful and most of the more abled are the opposite.
But that is a minor issue, Horwood clearly has some personal experience of the world and issues at the fore here and you have a strong feeling that this is the book he always wanted to write and he is putting everything of himself into it.
