Statue of Colonel William Prescott in Charlestown, Massachusetts.
William Prescott (February 20, 1726 – 1795) was an American Colonel in the Revolutionary War who commanded the rebel forces in the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Besides Bunker Hill, Prescott had served in the French and Indian War and was active in the battles for New York City in 1776 and the Saratoga Campaign of 1777 commanding the 7th Continental Regiment.

The Deavor House is the oldest standing frame house in the Blue Ridge Mountains, according to the N.C. Division of Archives and History.
The central chimney of the house was first attributed to a Pennsylvania architectural influence, and its tiered porches on the front indicated a Charleston influence.

William John House (1879-1912) was by birth an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
House was born in Thatcham, near Newbury in Berkshire, on 7 October 1879, the son of Thomas and Sally House of Cold Ash adjoining that town.
On 2 August 1900 at Mosilikatse Nek, South Africa, when a sergeant who had gone forward to reconnoitre was wounded, Private House rushed out from cover (although cautioned not to do so as the fire from the enemy was very hot), picked up the wounded sergeant and tried to bring him into shelter.

William was a forefather of John Cleve Green, endower of the Lawrenceville School, and of the Greens who operated the Ewing-Yardley Ferry.
The fine Flemish bond brickwork of the Green house is similar to that used in the 1719 Trent House in Trenton, and its interior preserves original eighteenth-century detailing.  The National and State Registers of Historic Places both list the Green house, citing it as a significant example of colonial farmhouse architecture.

 Quirpon: William Henry Pynn House
This timber frame, five bedroom dwelling house is known locally as "Uncle Bill Pynn's House." It was constructed by William Henry Pynn and Henry Bartlett in 1892 and is the oldest surviving house in Quirpon.
The house originally had a verandah, or bridge which ran around two sides of the building to the north and east.
William Henry Pynn's son, Gilbert Joseph Pynn, was the only wharfinger ever appointed by the Newfoundland government for its wharf in Quirpon, and coastal boat passengers often went to visit and pass the time while waiting for their departure.

William Hubbard (1787-1863) moved to Ashtabula, Ohio, from Holland Patent, New York, around 1834 to join relatives who owned and operated a successful lumber yard and warehouse in the town.
Hubbard constructed this house circa 1840 and became involved in the local antislavery society and town politics.
A strategic location for an Underground Railroad station, the house is in close proximity to Lake Erie and was often the last stop for fugitive slaves before they crossed the lake to Canada.

At the 1896 Republican Convention, in time of depression, the wealthy Cleveland businessman Marcus Alonzo Hanna ensured the nomination of his friend William McKinley as "the advance agent of prosperity." The Democrats, advocating the "free and unlimited coinage of both silver and gold"--which would have mildly inflated the currency--nominated William Jennings Bryan.
During his 14 years in the House, he became the leading Republican tariff expert, giving his name to the measure enacted in 1890.
"Uncle Joe" Cannon, later Speaker of the House, once said that McKinley kept his ear so close to the ground that it was full of grasshoppers.
