William Kelly (August 22, 1811 - February 11, 1888), born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was an American inventor.
Kelly was college-educated in metallurgy, while Henry Bessemer in his autobiography described no education, other than a practical knowledge of typecasting and machining learned at his father's type foundry.
Kelly applied for a patent after Bessemer patented the process, and was granted patent 17,628 in 1857.

Kelly hoped to save fuel by this process, and between 1851 and 1856 he built a series of experimental furnaces in the woods behind his plant.

William C. Kelly was the son of William Kelly (1811-1888) and Mildred A. Gracey (1830-1921).
He was the inventor of the Bessemer steelmaking process, and after Henry Bessemer's patent expired in 1870 all royalties reverted to William Kelly.
So if Rebecca Colwell Kelly Parsons was born in 1833, she probably was not connected directly with the Kely Axe family, unless she was related to a relative of the original William Kelly who was born in Pittsburgh.
