William Preston was County Lieutenant, Sheriff, and Surveyor of Fincastle County, VA 1772-1776 during which time most of the best land in Kentucky in the central Bluegrass and around the Falls of the Ohio was surveyed and granted to various individuals for services in the French and Indian War.
During the spring and early summer of 1779 Preston was concerned with the possibility of a Tory insurrection in the frontier area.

Born in Edinburgh, he became Deputy Grand Secretary of the Ancient Grand Lodge of England, and compiled an appendix to the Constitutions, which was issued in 1776.
In 1777 the Lodge of Antiquity, under Preston's guidance, had a serious dispute with the "Moderns," which resulted in his suspension from the Order.

William has been around the test of time and I like that you really don't here Bily or Bill all that oftwn any more not like Ryan, Dylan, or a ahost of too many overused names.
There was a Preston in my son's baseball league this summer and parents kept cheering "Go Presto!" There is not a feeling of strength to the name - William or James either one would be better imo.
