William Howitt, in his Land, Labour and Gold; or Two Years in Victoria, mentions Panton and suggests that he was not a success in this position (vol.
An amiable but weak man, his lavish grants of land were not to his own advantage: he died a poor man, and his widow was granted two thousand acres of land by Macquarie.

She left at five years of age, and the eventual cause of her inclusion was that she was really an Australian of the third generation.
Her mother was an Australian, one grandfather spent all his adult life in Australia, and one of her great-grandfathers was William Sorell, one of the ablest governors that ever came to Australia.

Stephen Wrathall (1779 -1872) and Descendants
It is possible that Stephen, who went in a family group to Tasmania in 1830 -1831, may have been the grandson of Lupton Wrathall (1716 - 1780?) and the son of William Wrathall (1747 - 1827), who are both listed in the Burnsall, Conistone, and Linton records.

A Joseph DAVIS is listed as the occupier of a house in Franklin Street, Campbell Town in the valuation roll taken in the Campbell Town district on 13 April 1858.
The house he was living in was owned by William Campbell PEARS and valued at £20.
At the time of the muster on 28 March 1854 Joseph was noted as being based at Swansea, so perhaps he was still working for R CROCKETT at this time.

We then follow the Lyell Highway over the Central Highlands, past the King William Range and descend to the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.
After packing the rafts and a safety talk we head down Propsting Gorge and through the exciting Trojans rapids before arriving at Rock Island Bend and the Pig Trough, with its delightful waterfall cascading into a fernlined grotto.
Safety dictates that we portage the actual Pig Trough rapid before we round the bend to tackle the famous Newland Cascades.
