 There's Something About Roth
The Roth IRA as proposed by the 1997 Act required two significant clarifications from subsequent legislation: first, the 1997 Act permitted IRA owners to convert their IRA into a Roth IRA, and then take distributions from the Roth IRA penalty-tax free (assuming the penalty tax applies).
Since the Roth IRA is not subject to the required minimum distribution rules, contributions may be made after the age of 70 1/2 as long as one has earned income.
Those considering the Roth IRA should be familiar with the tax free distribution rules, and understand that the failure to abide by these rules could cause distributions to be taxable.
