In January, we wrote to several fan artists, asking them to 'collaborate' with William Rotsler bycompleting five 'set-ups' that we included with the letter.
The first time I encountered Rotsler was when I was cutting artwork on stencils for the WSFA Journal, back in the late '60s.
My memories of the convention panels I have been on with Bill Rotsler are a blur, the blur of cartoons flying from his pen.

This is important because many authors have their characters say and do things which are totally at odds with the author's point of view.
Many of the quotes in Rotsler's book are useless without a context and some are downright sinister.
Rotsler recorded most of these quotes while sitting in bars with the authors.

I got my envelope last year with a short note: "Please take what you want and pass the rest on." It was overwhelming.
Oh, I knew who he was—I've seem his drawing for years and read "Rotsler's Rules." I really did mean to write a thank you note and start using them.
Enjoy the few examples of his work that I've managed to slip into this PR and remember to thank someone before it is too late.

Gregory Benford & William Rotsler: Shiva Descending
The size of the rock gives reason to suspect that an impact would end human civilization, therefore it is named Shiva, the Destroyer.
As I said before Benford und Rotsler stick to the pattern of a disaster movie and spend about half of the 600-page book introducing a number of characters.
In spite of all their efforts the protagonists lack color and the plot seems needlessly drawn out without much actually happening.

To give a reason for anything is to breed a doubt of it.
I don't believe anyone ever suspects how completely unsure I am of my work and myself and what tortures of self-doubting the doubt of others has always given me.

BOOK REVIEW: A History of X: 100 Years of Sex in Film
Twenty years ago adult film director William Rotsler predicted that mainstream bookshelves would someday be brimming with tomes dedicated to the subject of pornographic cinema.
As such, Luke Ford's "A History of Sex: 100 Years of Sex in Film" is a long overdue exploration into virgin territory.
But as a first step toward gaining adult cinema (or literary critiques about it) the mainstream respectability William Rotsler once so boldly envisioned, both Ford and the industry he commemorates still have a long way to go.

Reading reader comments on this novel, written about 20 years ago, is both amusing and sad.
Sobering indeed, that Bill Rotsler died last year without seeing the two films so clearly made from the ideas we introduced in 1980 -- DEEP IMPACT and ARMAGEDDON.
Sad that he got no recognition or income from these $100 million flicks, which brushed aside all our attempts to even get them to option the novel!

Bill Rotsler has been a delight to fandom for over a half century that he's been in fandom.
Lots of readers commented on the feature, with the most amusing one from David Bratman: "It's like reading Partners in Wonder, only shorter and funnier." It was all a surprise to Rotsler, who had no clue we were planning this stunt.
