The death knell for their people began with the discovery of the Smith Islands (OTL's South Shetland Islands) by British mariner William Smith in 1819 and his return voyage the next year that discovered the Yamana Peninsula itself.
In 1830, the British backed the chief of one of the more populous groups of the peninsula in becoming the sole sovereign of the Yamana Peninsula, the Smith Islands and the Bransfield Archipelago (OTL's Palmer Archipelago), forming the Kingdom of Yamania that was largely a British puppet.
The early 19th century saw the gradual dying out of the native Yamanians with the arrival of Europeans and their diseases even as Yamania soon eclipsed Hawaii as a major whaling center with the city of Antarctica in the Smith Islands becoming the major port of call for whaling vessels.
