(1821-1858), knowr as Hodson of Hodsons Horse, British leader of light cavalr during the Indian Mutiny, third son of the Rev. George Hodson afterwards archdeacon of Stafford and canon of Lichfield was born on the i9th of March 1821 at Maisemore Court, nea Gloucester.
Hodson states in his book that he obtained the inventory of his brothers possessions made by the Committee of Adjustment and it contained no articles of loot, and Sir Charles Gough, president of the committee, confirmed this evidence.
Hodson was killed on the 11th of March 1858 in the attack on the Begum Kotee at Lucknow.

Hodson, the son of a clergyman, was born on 19 March 1821, near Gloucester, England.
On the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, Hodson was reinstated with a commission and raised a regiment of 2,000 irregular cavalry which became famous as `Hodson`s Horse` and which took part in the siege of Delhi.
As well, Hodson was Head of the Intelligence department and his spies reported accurately on rebel troop movements within the city and the damage done by British guns.

Major William Stephen Raikes Hodson (1821-1858), Hodson of Hodson's Horse, is remembered for a number of notable achievements in his lifetime and was a Victorian cavalry officer of distinction.
Lord Napier was also at Hodson's bedside at the time of his friend's death in 1858, and (in a letter he later sent Mrs Hodson) recorded Hodson's last words as "I hope I have done my duty".
This recognition of Hodson by the Prime Minister was reflected in the special pension granted his widow by the Secretary of State for India in Council, who declared it was 'testimony of the high sense entertained of the gallant and distinguished services of the late Brevet-Major W.S.R. Hodson'.

William Redmond was the youngest of a family of fourteen, who emigrated with their parents from Carrickfergus, Ireland, with the intention of settling in North Carolina, where the father had purchased a plantation before selling his Irish bleach-fields.
William settled at the Backshore (1826) and married a daughter of the first family of Scottish blood to settle here (Allen) and later removed to the village.

With his troop of Sikh cavalry, known as Hodson's Horse, he was a vicious fighter which endeared him to his men.
Apart from his time at Rugby the only time Flashman was with Hodson was at Lucknow.
Flashman recounts a meeting at a campfire the day before Hodson was fatally wounded during fighting in Lucknow city.

By November, Raikes, with the help of Felicia H. Felder, Walter Jackson, and Jane Gross and the support of the Black Studies Office and the new Black Cultural Center had produced the first Black Faculty/Staff Directory at UT Knoxville.
In 1976, Dr. Rodney Hammond, assistant professor of psychology, became BFSA's second chair, with Deborah Raikes, instructor and undergraduate librarian, vice-chair; Gloria Johnson, English instructor, treasurer; Ethel Glascoe, clerk-typist in geography, secretary; and Cary Woods, administrative assistant to the vice president for public service, as corresponding secretary.
At the January 16, 1976, meeting not only did the question arise of whether or not such an organization with such small numbers should continue to exist but also, the fact that the association had inherited a debt from a social hour held at the Faculty Club by the previous administration.

The final was one of the best games of bowls using initiative, tactics, skill and use of the percentage shot as well as some of the most fearsome firing I have ever witnessed.
