William Whitehead, (1715 – April 14, 1785), was an English poet and playwright.
Much of Whitehead's work was well received: his tragedy The Roman Father was successfully produced by David Garrick in 1750, Creusa, Queen of Athens (1754) was also praised and his comedy The School for Lovers (1762) was a success.
Whitehead's works were collected in two volumes in 1774.

Whiteheads farce, The Trip to Scotland, was performed on the 6th of January 1770.
Beside the works already mentioned, Whitehead wrote a burlesque poem, The Sweepers, a number of verse conies, of which Variety and The Goats Beard are good examples, and much occasional and official verse.

Whitehead was the son of Daniel R. Whitehead and Katerhine Quinn Whitehead and was born in Whitehall July 7, 1862.
Whitehead was a fireman in the employ of the D & H Railroad, an occupation he followed for some time.

Whitehead collaborates with several faculty in Gynecology in research on the role of obstetrical injury in the etiology of fecal incontinence, behavioral treatments for incontinence, and the role of reproductive hormones in IBS.
Whitehead received his PhD from the University of Chicago in clinical psychology and physiology in 1973 and did his dissertation research on the biofeedback conditioning of gastric acid secretion.
Whitehead also had major responsibilities in the World Symposium in Vienna which was organized to develop a consensus on the definition of a “responder” in clinical trials for functional GI disorders.
