In 1738 William Windham II was tutored on his Grand Tour by Benjamin Stillingfleet, a botanist, naturalist and writer of librettos and oratorios who was the first person to give English names to grasses.
Windham was also accompanied by Robert Price of Foxley, Herefordshire, and Stillingfleet later moved to Foxley to assist in a programme of improving woods, pasture and cottages.
Windham died young in 1761; his son, William Windham III with Nathaniel Kent, William Marshall and Robert Marsham were seminal influences for Repton.
