William Le Queux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
William Tufnell Le Queux (1864 - 1927) was a British journalist and writer.
These works were examples of invasion literature, a common phenomenon in pre-WWI Europe involving fictionalised stories of possible invasion or infiltration by foreign powers; Le Queux's specialty, much appreciated by Northcliffe, was the German invasion of Great Britain.

CRITIQUE :: War, Propoganda, and the Fiction of William Le Queux
The author was William Le Queux, the agency was British intelligence, and the enemy was the German state.
Different and yet the same, the Le Queux factor offers some remarkable parallels to the current war on terror, particularly when balanced against the ongoing debates regarding the establishment or realignment of government agencies, and the enactment or modification of rules of law and procedure.
Accordingly, and drawing heavily upon Le Queux’s flights of fancy—waiters, barbers and night signals in Surry figured prominently in his testimony—Edmonds presented to the subcommittee a variety of evidence concerning German espionage in Britain, much of it misinterpreted or fabricated.

Donovan, Le Queux served as foreign correspondents; Freeman was a doctor in Ghana; O. Henry lived in Latin America; Oppenheim married his American wife while on a business trip to the USA.
Le Queux's hero tends to stick to his cover role as a diplomat - a fake role, to be sure, but more stable than Oppenheim's wig and makeup jobs.
Le Queux's fiction tends to be set more in the "real world" of public life - embassies, government bureaus and offices, diplomatic functions.

Le Queux rushed out The German Spy: A Present-Day Story in late 1914 and Gaumont's previously banned film version of The Invasion of 1910 was released under the title If England Were Invaded.
Le Queux's Invasion of 1910 was quite explicit in its propaganda for a system of national service, the scheme which Field-Marshal Lord Roberts had resigned his post as commander-in-chief to promote.
In any case, most of the information which Le Queux and his associates suspected German spies of trying to obtain was readily available for a small price in the form of Ordnance Survey and Admiralty maps.
