If you tried to contact Keller Williams at anytime from 1997 to 2000, you probably would have had to address the correspondence to Anywhere, U.S.A. The acoustic guitar whiz spent nearly that entire period on the road, playing all kinds of gigs, as he gradually built a fan base.
Williams’ voice has little range; but it is an effective vehicle for his loping, deadpan delivery that serves as counterpoint for the danceable grooves that combine acoustic picking and an arsenal of ambient sounds.
In some respects, Williams’ trademark one-man-jam-band approach may typify an era, one that, in part, may be a knee-jerk reaction to all the hair-raising, earsplitting electric guitar “heroes” who ran amuck in the 1970s and ‘80s.
