Willie Thorne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
William Joseph "Willie" Thorne (born 4 March 1954) is an English professional snooker player and commentator.
A brilliant junior, Thorne became national under-16 champion at both snooker and billiards in 1970.
In one famous incident, Thorne bet £38,000 on a match involving John Parrott, betting that Parrott would lose as he had lost his cue and had to use one at random from the rack.

Telegraph | Sport | Gambling addiction drove Thorne to the brink
Willie Thorne will never forget the day in September 2002 he decided to kill himself; but as painful as that memory may be, the thought represents an infinitely preferable alternative, he now concedes with a trademark grin, to oblivion.
Thorne plumped for sleeping pills - about 30 of them - one afternoon when Jill, a former Miss Great Britain, was out of the house and with her children at school.
Thorne was destined never to win the World Championship while lesser snooker talents regularly walked off with the sport's most glittering prize.
